Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) has inaugurated two new Sky Bridges. These will open for public use on 31st July 2024 as an alternative to roadway crossings. The general idea behind constructing these pedestrians is to ease traffic and improve passenger convenience.

Built as a 146,000-square-foot glass structure, the sky bridges connect the hourly deck and terminal with the new mezzanine level in the lobby on the fifth floor. Passengers will only access the terminal entrance using these skyways or underground walkways. There will be no roadway crossing access except for passengers commuting via airport or hotel shuttles, rideshares, or curbside drop-offs and pickups.

Sky Bridge is a part of the terminal lobby expansion project that started in November 2019 with a budget of $600 million. It is expected to be finished by the fall of 2025. Currently, the development is in the fifth phase. The terminal expansion project also features two public art installations, "Catawba Ways" by Janelle Lane Stanley on the eastern side and "Garden Carpet" by Susan Brenner on the western side. Catawba Ways showcases the link between Charlotte and the Catawba nation, while Garden Carpet highlights dogwood and camellias.
