This airline was formed as a union between Ad Astra Aero and Balair in the year 1931. In the early 2002, SWISS International Airlines was formed and operations were transferred to Crossair, and since 2006, this airline became a member of the Star Alliance. This airline also has codeshare agreements with several other carriers, and some of them are Adria Airways, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Air China, Air France, United Airlines, Thai Airways amongst many others.
