KLM Airlines Flight Booking

KLM at a Glance

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flies from the US to Amsterdam Schiphol and connects there to more than 150 destinations. KLM operates under the parent company Air France-KLM and shares a frequent flyer program and a transatlantic joint venture alongside Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic.

KLM Baggage Allowance and Size Limits

KLM sets one combined weight limit for everything you bring into the cabin. Whether you get a checked bag depends on your fare.

KLM Carry-On Size and Weight Limits

Your hand baggage can be up to 55 x 35 x 25 cm (about 22 x 14 x 10 inches), including handles and wheels. Together with your small bag, it can't weigh more than 12 kg (26 lbs) in Economy or 18 kg (40 lbs) in Business.

KLM Personal Item Size

The small bag or accessory can be up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm (about 16 x 12 x 6 inches) and fits under the seat. Its weight counts toward the 12 kg (26 lbs) total, which is easy to forget when you put the laptop in it.

KLM Checked Bag Size and Weight Limits

Economy Light doesn't include a checked bag. Standard and Flex include one bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs), and Premium Comfort includes two. Business Standard allows two bags, each up to 32 kg (70 lbs). Each bag must be 158 cm (62 inches) or less in total dimensions.

Premium Comfort Light includes no checked bags, Business Light includes 1 checked bag.

What Can You Bring as a Carry-On or Personal Item on KLM?

Because KLM counts weight across both bags, splitting things up doesn't help. How common bags count:

• Backpack: personal item if it's within 40 x 30 x 15 cm. Otherwise, it counts as hand baggage.
• Handbag or laptop bag: personal item.
• Roller suitcase: hand baggage. A standard US carry-on is often slightly too wide for KLM's 35 cm limit, so measure it first.
• Baby care items: you may bring an additional bag for your infant if your infant is traveling on your lap.

How to Get Cheap KLM Flights

A few KLM-specific moves can lower the price of a trip to Europe:

• Compare Light with Standard. On transatlantic routes, the price gap is sometimes smaller than the cost of adding a bag to Light.
• Check Delta and Air France flights as well. They sell many of the same flights under their joint venture, sometimes at different prices.
• Fly to Amsterdam and connect from there. KLM's network from Schiphol often makes smaller European cities cheaper to reach than a nonstop from the US.

Popular Destinations on KLM

• Flights to Dubai

How much does KLM charge for extra bags?

KLM prices extra bags by route, class, and fare. Adding them online in advance is cheaper than paying at the airport. Each extra bag in Economy must weigh no more than 23 kg (50 lbs) and be no longer than 158 cm. Light fares need a bag added if you plan to check one.

Does KLM ever have a sale?

Yes. KLM regularly lists promotional fares on its deals page, and its Flying Blue program publishes monthly Promo Rewards with discounted award seats on selected routes. The deals above show the lowest KLM fares we've found recently.
