Horizon Air is a regional carrier based in Washington, United States. Its slogan is ‘Wings of the Great Northwest’. The airline was founded in 1981 and started its operations on September 1, 1981. It has its hubs at Portland International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma international Airport.
Horizon Air was once the eighth largest airline in the United States, serving 42 cities both in USA and Canada, the airline was then purchased by Alaska Air Group in 1986.
Connectivity and fleet Size
Currently, Horizon Air operates two types of aircraft, the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 turboprop and the Embraer 175 Regional Jet. It fleet consists of 55 aircrafts which flies to about 45 destinations.
The Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 is a high speed and high-wing turboprop with 76 leather seats. Each row comprises of two seats on either side of the aisle having no middle seats.
Embraer 175 Regional Jet is operated in a three class configuration i.e. first, premium, and main cabin classes. The Jet also comprises of 76 leather seats.
Services and Amenities
Horizon Air offers its passengers a complimentary small snack and a beverage, including coffee, in all its flights. In fact, it was the first airline to offer Starbucks coffee on its flights.
Passengers traveling in flights with durations of more than one hour can purchase ‘Picnic Packs’ or single snack items.
The airline offers Gogo Inflight Internet, which is complimentary for all passengers depending on the length of the flight.
Baggage Policy
Carry-on Baggage: Because of space restrictions in the overhead cabin, Horizon Air allows passengers to take along one carry-on baggage that doesn’t exceed the dimensions of 10 x 17 x 24 inches, including wheels and handles. In addition to this, passengers are allowed to carry one personal item with them. Fragile and valuable items are to be packed in your carry-ons as well.
Checked-in Baggage: During peak travel seasons, Horizon Air may limit the number of checked baggage. The first three pieces of checked baggage will be charged a fee of $20 each. The weight of each piece of baggage should not exceed 50 lbs.
