American Airlines completed its longest direct flight in history covering a distance of 13,357 km (8300 miles) between Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW Airport) and Brisbane Airport, regarded as the longest route in the world.
It took a little over 16 hours to reach the milestone in a Boeing 787-9 with a capacity of 285 passengers. American Airlines has, however, not disclosed the exact number of passengers on the flight. The inaugural nonstop flight between the two cities was steered by a crew of three pilots, a relief captain, and 11 flight attendants as reported by USA Today.
The gate event celebration at DFW Airport saw the customers being gifted a bag with koala plushie, a commemorative postcard, as well as a voucher for a free koala moment at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane. American and Australian flags were placed outside the cockpit by the crew members when the plane landed.
To commemorate the grand occasion, a live-streaming of the flight's landing was carried out on the YouTube channel of the Brisbane Airport which was witnessed by more than 12,000 people. American Airlines is all set to increase the number of its every day flights from December to the end of March with five flights in each direction.
